The game of the day in DIII men’s lacrosse takes place on the Eastern Shore of Maryland as No. 2 Salisbury (12-0) puts its unbeaten record on the line against No. 4 Christopher Newport at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Sea Gulls (12-0) have five wins over top-20 opponents in 2025 and are an offensive machine, averaging 17.75 goals per game. The Captains (12-1) have just one blemish, that coming against top-ranked Tufts in overtime. CNU has four top-20 triumphs and averages 16.7 goals per contest.

Brice Bromwell leads DIII with 75 points on 35 goals and 40 assists, while running mate Riley Strub has found the back of the net 43 times. John DeFazio has caused 27 turnovers in 12 games in front of GK Nicholas Ransom who has a 47.4 save percentage.

The dynamic duo of Kevin Miller (24-45-69) and Jamie Smith (48-5-53) power the CNU offense. Mark Davison is a top defender that has caused 25 turnovers. GK Mason Bellinger has a 54.1 save percentage.

The game could be settled by face-off men, as the Gulls’ Blake Malamphy has won 65.2% of his draws, while counterpart Warner Cabaniss has captured 66.9 percent of face-offs for CNU.

First place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference is on the line Saturday in Winchester as #9 Washington and Lee visits Shenandoah.

The Generals (10-4) are 7-0 in conference play and are riding a 94-game regular-season ODAC win streak. W&L’s last conference loss was April 20, 2013, when Guilford handed the Generals an 11-6 defeat. The Hornets (8-3) are 4-0 in the ODAC, outscoring their four opponents, 91-6. But SU is stepping up in conference competition this weekend.

Hannah Von Son leads a balanced W&L attack with 35-2-37, while Sophie Edwards (18-12-30) and Lara Baki (24-5-29) are close behind. Libby Ford tops the caused turnover chart with 24, while GK Iman Haddad has a 42.3 save percentage.

Ainsley Buckner tops the Hornets’ scoring chart with 26-10-36, while Emily Ransom (23) and Alex Ripkin (22) are also members of the 20-goal club. Buckner also has a team-best 68 draw controls. Madison Perry mans the net with a 41.1 save percentage.

3. DIII Lax Sponsorship: What Has Happened Over the Last Five Year

by Steve Dittmore

“News over the past-week plus that Bryn Athyn College (men’s and women’s lacrosse) would discontinue all athletics and that Rosemont College (men’s lacrosse) would merge with D1 Villanova University certainly reduces the number of D3 and harms the United East Conference of which both schools are a member.

At the same time, D1 Saint Francis University (women’s lacrosse) announced it would transition to D3 for the 2026-27 academic year. The current state of higher education enrollment and financial challenges means the landscape of D3 sports will continue to be fluid.

Since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, 15 men’s and 15 women’s lacrosse programs in D3 have been discontinued. At the same time, six men’s and 13 women’s lacrosse programs have been added, creating a net change of minus-9 men’s teams and minus-2 women’s teams.

Following is a list of the D3 men’s and women’s program sponsorship changes since March 2020. The year indicates the year the school announced the change. Not all of the new programs have begun play.

Two schools - SUNY Cobleskill and Rosemont - announced in 2022 they would add women’s lacrosse but have not begun play (Rosemont, obviously, is closing).

Four schools have both discontinued and reinstated programs during the past five-year window. Alfred State (2020) dropped men’s but reinstated this year. Elmira (2021) dropped men’s and women’s but reinstated this year. Hiram (2020) dropped women’s but reinstated to begin in 2026. Montclair State (2025) dropped men’s and women’s but reinstated.

4. United East and AMCC Announce Women's Lacrosse Partnership

“The United East and the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) have announced a conference partnership in the sport of women’s lacrosse, effective spring 2026.

As part of the partnership, each conference will play a regular season slate of games against their respective league’s core members. Both conferences will conduct postseason play to identify the two teams that will advance to the Crossover Championship game. The winner of the Crossover Championship game will receive the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.”

» What They’re Saying. "The AMCC is very excited to offer our women's lacrosse programs a chance to access the national tournament by partnering with the United East," said commissioner Donna Ledwin. "We are always looking to collaborate with other conferences in our geographic footprint to enhance competitive opportunities for our student-athletes. We have a well established history of collaboration with the UEC in multiple sports. There is no question that this is a win-win for both conferences."

» Quotable. “We are thrilled to have a partner in our AMCC colleagues that ensures all of our student-athletes the opportunity to play for an AQ and represent our conferences at the highest level in Division III,” said United East Commissioner Stephanie Dutton.
