MEN’S LACROSSE

1. Captains Shoot Down Gettysburg

Christopher Newport outscored Gettysburg, 9-2, in the decisive second half to defeat the Bullets, 16-9, in a top-10 showdown. Three goals from Jamie Smith, who finished with six tallies on the day, fueled a four-goal run to help the Captains pull away.

Gettysburg outshot CNU, 56-32, won more ground balls, 39-21, and dominated face-offs, 21-8, but fell short on the scoreboard. Mason Bellinger turned away 13 Bullet shots, while Murphy Hoey managed just seven stops of CNU attempts.

2. Elsewhere in the Top 20

Jackson Penn, Stevens

Coleton Mahorney and Gavin Gismondi each recorded hat tricks as York opened its season with a 10-8 victory against Washington and Lee. Salisbury’s Connor Herraiz had two goals and six assists to power the Sea Gulls (3-0) past Scranton, 20-3. Rex Mabbs and Clay Almgren combined for 13 points as Swarthmore outscored Widener, 13-1, over the middle two periods to pound the Pioneers, 18-5. Ryan Bullock posted a hat trick as RIT went on the road and downed Denison, 11-7.

Jackson Penn notched a hat trick as Stevens held off a late charge to defeat Dickinson, 9-8. Lynchburg downed a game St. Mary’s squad, 15-11, as Liam Holman, Riley Hastings, and Spencer Vandenberg each scored three times. RPI (3-0) made it a successful trip to Rocky Top with a 12-11 win against Sewanee and an 18-7 triumph against Rhodes. And Stevenson got goals from Darrell Curtis and Alexander Wilson in a 1:57 span of the fourth period to edge Muhlenberg, 10-8.

3. Around the Nation

Grove City took out Ohio Wesleyan, 14-13, on an overtime goal from Stewart McClain just 42 seconds into the extra stanza. Illinois Wesleyan edged Colorado College, 11-10, as Noah Dretzka scored the game-winner with 1:42 left. Jonathan Slusser notched the deciding goal with 59 ticks remaining to lift Montclair State past Goucher, 10-9. Ethan Vargas and Joey Forchelli each scored six goals as Farmingdale State won a wild 18-15 decision over DeSales. Centenary’s two-headed monster of Gamble Harvill and Noah Walsh were at it again, as Harvill scored 18 goals and five assists in wins against Warren Wilson and Brevard, while Walsh added nine scores and 20 assists (not a typo). Southwestern pulled out a pair of one-goal decisions to open its season, scoring in the final :02 to defeat Dubuque, 11-10, and with 2:10 remaining to fell Illinois Wesleyan, 13-12.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

4. Diplomats Rally Past Generals, 7-6

Alexandra Proefrock, Franklin & Marshall

Franklin & Marshall rallied from a 4-1 deficit midway through the second period to defeat Washington and Lee on the road, 7-6. Sophomore Alexandra Proefrock tied the match at 6-6 with just under six minutes to play then converted two minutes later on a player-advantage for the winner. Devyn Crone handed out four assists, including on both of Proefrock’s tallies, for F&M while Lara Baki had a pair of scores for the Generals.

5. Around the Nation

Salisbury (2-0) took down Catholic, 17-9, as Audrey Harrington led the way with four goals. Messiah outscored Scranton, 5-1, over the game’s final 15 minutes to down the Royals, 11-5. Grace Pettitt and Hayley Lettinga each had three goals and an assist for the Falcons. Maddie McDonald scored seven goals, while Zoe Blair added five to lift Roanoke past St. Mary’s, 17-9.

Sewanee had a successful trip to the state of Wisconsin, defeating River Falls and Eau Claire. The Tigers scored the final five goals of the match vs. the Falcons to down River Falls, 15-10. Marlin Price scored five goals with two assists as Sewanee eased past the Blugolds, 18-8. Greensboro (1-1) evened its record with a 14-6 home win against Sweet Briar, as Sydney Patton led the way with five goals. And Sydney Dumas notched five goals for the second straight game as Lynchburg routed Felician, 15-3.

“Aurora University has been selected as the unanimous favorite to capture the 2026 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) men's lacrosse title.

The Spartans - who are 41-1 in NACC play over the last five seasons and have won four straight titles - secured all 24 first-place votes from the league's head coaches and athletics communications professionals to finish atop the table with 288 points. Concordia University Wisconsin edged Lake Forest College, 246-241, for second place, while the University of Dubuque is fourth with 210 points.”

“Eager to avenge last season’s finish, the United States Merchant Marine Academy has been selected as the favorite in the 2026 Skyline Conference Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Mariners totaled 46 points in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches. Farmingdale State, the defending Skyline champion, was selected second in the preseason poll with 44 points, followed by Maritime in third with 39 points after a strong semifinal appearance a season ago.”

“The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its preview and predictions for the 2026 women’s lacrosse season. The predictions were voted on by the head coaches and sports information directors.

Colorado College is projected to secure its third consecutive regular-season title. The Tigers advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III championship a year ago after winning their second straight WIAC tournament title. College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) is pegged for second in the conference race.”
