2. Can Wesleyan Stop Middlebury’s Quest For A Fifth Straight Championship?

Maddie Ackerman, Middlebury

Kyra Browne, Wesleyan

It’s an all-NESCAC final today in Rochester, N.Y., as Middlebury looks to cap a perfect season as it takes on Wesleyan at 3 p.m.

The Panthers have won the last four DIII women’s lacrosse titles and look to become the first program since TCNJ in the 1990s to win five consecutive national championships. Caroline Adams scored the overtime game-winner as Middlebury survived a semifinal challenge from Tufts, 10-9.

Wesleyan is in the final for the first time in program history and looks to avenge a pair of losses to their Vermont rival this season - 5-4 and 7-5. The Cardinals handed Salisbury its first loss of the season, downing the Sea Gulls, 5-4, in the semifinal. Dylan Green notched a hat trick and Izzy Weintraub made nine saves in the cage for Wesleyan.

Since 2001, Middlebury is 28-1 against Wesleyan with the Cardinals’ only win coming a year ago in the NESCAC semifinals, 13-10. This is the seventh time that two NESCAC teams have met in the national championship game.
