TOP STORY

1. A DIII-Peat For Tufts

Seniors Brooks Hauser and Jack Regnery each tallied five points and sophomore goalkeeper Jack Old stopped 17 shots as the No. 1 Tufts University men's lacrosse team won its sixth NCAA title in program history with a 17-11 win over No. 10 Rochester Institute of Technology Sunday at Scott Stadium on the campus of the University of Virginia.

The title was the Jumbos (22-1) third consecutive, becoming the first time since Salisbury University in 2003-05 to earn three NCAA crowns in a row. Almost more impressive is the record that this senior class finishes with, as Tufts has gone 85-5 over the past four campaigns.

"I love this senior class so much," said head coach Casey D'Annolfo. "It's been a pretty incredible journey with this group, 85-5 record across four years, and just enjoyed every minute of it. And just so proud that the end of their freshmen year we walked off the field having lost a National Championship, and I think it's pretty cool that they get to walk off as a senior class winning the National Championship."

Regnery was named as the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Most Outstanding Player, as he finished with three goals and two assists Sunday. Regnery finished the postseason with 31 points in five games, and is the Division III all-time leader in NCAA Tournament goals with 61 over his four seasons.

Erich Acton and David Charney each had three goals for RIT, while Tyson Allison had two helpers for the Tigers.”

2. Middlebury Wins ‘One For The Thumb”

Middlebury won its fifth consecutive Division III women’s lacrosse championship, breaking open a tie game at the half with four third-period goals to subdue Wesleyan, 8-6.

With the match tied at 3-3, the Cardinals struck first in the second half on a tally by Abby Galaris just 1:54 into the third quarter. After the Panthers’ Haley Hamilton and Wesleyan’s Dylan Green traded goals, Midd struck for three unanswered to close the quarter from Maddie Ackerman, Hamilton, and Siobhan Colin to forge a 7-5 lead.

Caroline Adams provided an insurance goal nearly six minutes into the final stanza and earned the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player award. It is the 12th national title for the Panthers’ program, tying TCNJ for the most in DIII history.

Wesleyan, which set a program record for wins in a season (19), was led by a pair of tallies from Caroline Cervini, while Izzy Weintraub made eight saves.
