🔈 What They’re Saying. “I'm so proud of these guys. They have been disciplined. They've worked, worked, and worked every day. They proved it tonight that they could get out there and take whatever punch that came their way. They kept running, kept working, kept sharing the ball with each other. It's really a fantastic testimony to their effort and their love for each other. I love these guys, so proud.” - Michael Schanhals, Hope

The NCAA Division III men’s lacrosse team has a Cinderella and it resides in Holland, Mich.

Hope traveled to Maine and came away with a pair of surprising victories against Ithaca, 14-11, and Bates, 14-12, to remain undefeated at 20-0. The Flying Dutchmen become the first team from the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) to advance as far as the national quarterfinals.

Trailing 11-9 early in the final stanza, Hope scored four straight goals, including the go-ahead goal from Jackson Early with 4:21 left, to take a 13-11 lead. Miles Schmidt scored with 1:47 remaining to pull the Bobcats back within one, but Weston Godbold applied the clincher with 0:22 on the clock.

Next up for the Flying Dutchmen is another trip to Vacationland against No. 2 overall seed Bowdoin (18-1). The Polar Bears fought off valiant Stevens, 17-14, in the rain in Brunswick, as Casey Ryan had a nine-point day for the victors (5-4).

Babson and RIT will meet in the bracket’s other quarterfinal. The Beavers blitzed St. Lawrence, 6-1, over the final 15 minutes to down the Saints, 13-9. Seamus Rooney scored two fourth-quarter goals, while Braden Reilly put the hosts head for good with a tally just 1:45 into the stanza. Ryan Sanders made his sixth goal of the night the most memorable, scoring in overtime to send the Tigers into the Elite Eight with a 12-11 victory at Salisbury.

But the Captains regrouped and outscored W&L, 9-4, in the second half to advance to the national quarterfinals. Kevin Miller led CNU (18-3) with four goals and four assists.

Next up for the Captains is Wesleyan. The Cardinals (14-4) downed Little Three rival Williams, 14-10, in Middletown as Matt Morrow scored four times.
