3. No DIII Picks in Premier Lacrosse League Draft

John DeFazio, Salisbury
Four rounds and 32 picks and no DIII men’s lacrosse players were selected in the annual Premier Lacrosse League draft that was held on Tuesday night.
There was some chatter that Salisbury senior LSM John DeFazio, the reigning DIII National Player of the Year, could be among the names called.
» Draft Analysis. “Division 3 Player of the Year in 2024 wants to hunt in the middle of the field and is incredible off the ground.”

4. How NY State’s Experimental Shot Clock Is Returning Section III Lacrosse Back to ‘Fastest Game On Two Feet’

by Connor Pignatello, Syracuse.com
“When the Cazenovia and Jordan-Elbridge girls lacrosse teams met last April, the ending of a 10-8 contest looked more like a keepaway game than a back-and-forth affair between two evenly matched foes.
When the two teams played each other on April 24, Cazenovia again held a lead in the fourth quarter. But because of the introduction of the shot clock this year, the Lakers couldn’t just hold the ball and watch the game tick away.”
» Why It Matters. “That game, and many others, have been fundamentally changed since the New York State Public High School Athletic Association received experimental approval for the use of a shot clock for the 2025 season. Those in the lacrosse community, both within Section III and throughout the state, agree that the change has made the game a better product for players, coaches and fans. It has improved pace of play, moved the high school game closer to the college game and eliminated subjective stalling calls in the final minutes of contests.”
» Field Awareness. “The NYSPHSAA is the only public high school association to use a shot clock. Some private high school leagues in Maryland, Philadelphia and D.C. have added shot clock rules in recent years, and Texas added it for boys lacrosse in 2022, though the sport remains unsanctioned by the organization that governs high school sports in the state.”
» DYK? “Section III boys and girls lacrosse coaches said it’s important for college rule changes that have improved the game to trickle down to the high school level, especially since so many players from the area go on to play in college. About 500 Section III girls and boys lacrosse alums are currently playing college lacrosse.”
» What They’re Saying. “I think we needed the shot clock to bring up the pace of the game,” said Jim Amen, the boys lacrosse coordinator for the NYSPHSAA. “And I think the pace of the game has improved. It used to be the fastest game on two feet, and that disappeared.”
