GAME OF THE DAY
1. Captains Overrule Generals, 18-13

“Following a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter, the fourth-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team took control of the contest over the final three frames as the Captains pulled away for an 18-13 victory over No. 10 Washington and Lee during a top-10 clash on Monday evening at Wilson Field.
Trailing by one after the first 15 minutes, CNU quickly flipped the script and carried a two-goal lead into halftime and a six-goal edge into the fourth quarter. Although the Generals scored a pair of late tallies to cut into their deficit, the Captains sustained at least a two-goal cushion over the final 31 minutes of regulation to seal the victory.”
» Of Note. “Overall, Christopher Newport's 18 goals marked the program's highest output against a top-10 foe in program history. Previously, the Captains had 17-goal eruptions in similar victories over Dickinson, Gettysburg, and Salisbury. With the victory, CNU improved to 12-1 on the season, while the setback dropped Washington and Lee to 8-3.”
» Stat Sheet. Eight Captains found the back of the net, led by Jamie Smith who scored four times. Kevin Miller added three goals and four assists for CNU. Hillis Burns tallied six times for W&L in a losing cause.
GAME OF THE DAY
2. F&M, Gettysburg Meet For 72nd Time

It’s the most anticipated regular-season game on the Centennial Conference schedule, as No. 3 Gettysburg visits No. 5 Franklin & Marshall for the 72nd time since the rivals first met as varsity programs in 1977.
The Bullets (12) and the Diplomats (10) are the only two programs to win a CC title since 2002. Between them, they have combined for five national championships, eight other appearances in a national final, and 18 trips to the Final Four.
How close is the series? F&M leads 36-34-1, while Gettysburg has outscored the Diplomats by just 22 goals (709-687) in 71 contests.
Lauren Pittman (27-10-37) and Devyn Crone (18-19-37) lead the F&M offense, while the Bullets counter with Julia Daly (24-18-42) and Emily Crane (27-11-38).

5. UWEC’s Werner Prospers On Lacrosse Field

by Kristin Rose, Eau Claire Leader-Telegram
“UW-Eau Claire junior Reegan Werner has made her mark on the lacrosse field after breaking not one, but two records in a matchup against Edgewood College.
The Blugolds took down the Eagles on March 7 by a score of 25-3. Werner scored nine goals, breaking the previous school record of eight goals. She also tallied 12 points that game, breaking another previous record of 11 points.
Last season, Werner was named to the All-WIAC first team. She led the Blugolds with 43 goals and 62 points. She also led the team in ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers.”
» What They’re Saying. “She is like a lighting bolt,” head coach Michael Rhodovi said. “She is full of energy and she puts the team on her back when she needs to. She is just a very positive force.” Rhodovi said it is an amazing feeling to coach players who hold school records. Werner is one of a few players on the roster who currently hold records. “It makes it so much easier to coach when you have players that you can tell them this is how it should be, and they just execute,” he said. “It is a real special bond.”
» Why It Matters. Werner said breaking a school record as a junior is motivating because she knows she has yet to reach her full potential. “It is definitely something I went Division III for,” she said. “To go out and make a name for myself, play with my teammates, have fun and still perform at a high level of competition.”
